Ripple

Some of my best paintings are completely unintentional… “happy accidents” as Bob Ross may say.

This piece is one of those. To be honest, I was using some left over paint from another piece to create a layer of something on this canvas, just to add some interest and some texture to this canvas. I had no plan in what I was doing and no intention of creating a final piece.

I also love playing with oil paint… the thick texture and sound of my palette knife scraping across the canvas is a pleasing meditation for me.

At one point in my messing around, I had to stop myself and look back at this beauty I had just created. It’s difficult for me to accept that these accidental pieces are actually art pieces. They are reminders that the simplest solutions can be the best solutions.
