Three Breakthroughs That Saved My Largest Painting Project
Over the last 10 days or so I've been agonizing about how to finish these 7 massive paintings for my upcoming solo exhibition.
I just couldn't quite get them right.
I had this preconceived idea of how I wanted them to look but they weren't looking that way.
FINALLY... I had some realizations yesterday that helped me finish the first piece, and I now have some clarity on how to finish the rest of them.
Numero Uno:
All of my best art in the past happened from me being present, playing with the piece, and having no preconceived idea of how I wanted it to look...
So no wonder this wasn't working - I was in my head trying to force an outcome. We all know that rarely works, and when it does, it wasn't much fun, was it?
Numero Dos:
I originally wanted all of the Unseen pieces to look very light / near-white and almost feel angelic... but as I worked on them this wasn't really flowing.
Artists are meant to channel concepts for other people to see and understand. For this series, I am attempting to communicate the Unseen aspects of our lives.
I found myself wanting to bring more color into the pieces, and less of the angelic white look... OF COURSE I DO!
The Unseen aspects of our lives are diverse and colorful and chaotic and not angelic smooth white. Duh.
Numero Tres:
I can use compositions / styles / and techniques that I've used in the past. Duh!
I was experiment with a new style and technique with these and it wasn't flowing and honestly just felt stressful.
I had a moment two days ago and said "f* this, I'm gonna do this other style that I KNOW I like."
So that's what I did yesterday.
I used insight numero one to play with the piece, insight numero two to use fun colors I wanted to use, and insight numero three to use a technique I've used in the past that I enjoy...
AND VOILA!
I finished the first piece of the series... which I will not show you yet.
So if you want to be among the first people on the entire planet to see these 7 transcendent magical paintings, that are so large they envelop you and leave you no choice but to have a full body viewing experience...
I will be sharing a brief talk about the series at 6:30pm including a guided meditation to prime you to have a fully immersive experience when viewing the paintings.
So be sure to be on time!
You know what else you'll get for being on time? The best appetizers and beverages before they're gone... which are going to be quite delicious if I may say so myself (I've seen the menu and I'm excited).
Food, beverages, meditation, immersive art viewing experience connecting to your heart and soul... sounds pretty good to me.
