The One-Word Key to Making a Living as an Artist: Relentless
Someone recently asked me, "in doing what you truly love, how have you made it able to support your lifestyle/future?"
Great question. Common question.
I could write a book (or more) on this topic. But today I'll keep it brief.
In a nutshell... being relentless.
Relentless in learning how to market myself...
how to make better art...
how to network...
how to have sales conversations...
how to create a great customer experience...
how to manage my time and be disciplined...
I could go on.
I think it's an unfortunate myth that doing what you love means it is harder to make a living. I think it's only harder because it's hard to believe that we can make a good living doing something we love.
I've also had to be relentless in changing my beliefs to believe it's possible in the first place.
(Just like Neo in The Matrix when he's beginning to believe...)
It's been a 10 year journey at this point (and I'm still just getting started).
