The 30-Minute Cure for Writer's Block
Here is a tried and true practice I have used plenty of times on many projects to overcome this sasquatch swamp monster of a concept (meaning, writer's block is a scary myth).
When you arrive at your creative time (because you’ve prioritized it, as discussed earlier in this beautifully written issue)… meaning you are physically there with your pen, clay, etc… set a timer for 30 minutes and put all other activities and distractions away.
This means putting your phone on airplane mode and in the other room. I’ve recently been leaving my phone in my car during my creative time. Out of sight, out of mind. What’s more important to me… not missing a call or text? Or making my art?
Then for 30 minutes you have 2 options: create or do nothing. There is now no pressure to create… much less create something that’s actually good (which isn’t even the point anyways). But after a few minutes of staring at the wall I’m sure you’ll start playing with your creative tools/toys and the rest will be history. Hopefully this 30 minutes turns into a longer session, but that is not a requirement.
Your project may seem too large to tackle right now, but 30 minutes a day consistently has all of the gold you need to finish the project.
This daily practice has another benefit of strengthening your creativity muscle. We all know that consistent workouts over time are what give us the fitness benefits we seek… not a single weekend of working out.
Creativity works the same way.
PS: Here's what's inside the upcoming January 2025 issue.

- How to get out of draining social plans by blaming your creative projects
- There are demons that speak to you to limit your creative abilities… how to face them, and what to do about them

- The mind-bending reality of how to create your best work, right now, without taking more trainings, courses, or practicing more
- How to never let perfectionism stop you from finishing things again (while still making things good enough to make money, if you’re into that sort of thing)
